About Kudos-4U
The Social Space For Seniors
I love applause – who doesn’t. And so I was glad to be able to name the website Kudos-4U. This is a place where seniors get together, share their talk and praise their achievements. There is so much talk about the ‘inability’ of seniors coming from non-seniors, that it behooves us to create our own rhetoric. This is it!
The Name Kudos-4U
I was looking around for a name that would be catchy, unique and at the same time reflect the main theme of the website. I checked the titles on my bookshelves, scoured the internet for suggested titles that fitted within my theme, and played with the data thus gathered to come up with a list of suitable names. In the end most of names I tried were already taken. I was happy to find ‘Kudos-4U.com’ , it fitted perfectly. Kudos for you, congratulations on your achievements, on your seniority.
The Purpose
Well this website primarily addresses issues and interests of women over fifty years of age, living their prime or moving into it. Large changes are taking place in our lives. Retirement can make you feel out of sorts; aging presents challenges; children move away leaving physical and emotional emptiness. On the other hand, wonderful things happen (or can happen) as we move into a new beginning.
Of course we want our men to be a part of this too – the men we love, the men who love us. This website allows us to celebrates them as they celebrate us.
As we articulate on Kudos-4U, we find solutions out of the experience of others, create our own applause, educate one or two or more.
Here are the uppermost reasons which pushed me to initiating this website – a space for seniors sharing among themselves:
- I was nervous about retirement though I really had no need to be. I guess many people are too. I now have a good understanding of why this change is so scary and why it shouldn’t have to be so. There are a number of seniors who have sorted it out and therefore I am encouraged to invite the talk.
- I know a lot (personally) about the lives and loves of senior women and to a lesser extent senior men, because I live the life of a senior. I know a lot about our needs, desires, wants, and fears. You know a lot about it too, and so if we join in conversation, we can have a good laugh, even if only at ourselves.
- I subscribe to an online network called Quora (https://www.quora.com/) and I get a number of questions and comments on retirement, aging, senior living. Most of them are of the ‘woe is me’ variety but my experience of retirement and senior living is now so different that I decided to blog about the subject in a more rounded way.
I am looking forward to seeing the reaction to Kudos-4U. I do hope that it generates comments – lots of them – and that it helps us to treat aging as a matter of course, and not one of fear and dread. After all, what would be the point? In fact women over fifty are bright, exciting, excited about life, some are looking for love, others for occupation. So too are men in their senior years. Let’s have the talk.
About Caribbean Books
‘Delightful!’ is my term for this category. The stories cover a variety of themes. If you are a senior citizen like me, there are stories that will take you back to the culture of ‘old times’ and remind you of the happenings of those days – the long walks to school, carrying water jug on your head, playing cricket in the backyard, climbing trees, bathing in the river, neighborhood issues… and it goes on. This section also touches on history, art, culture as it grows.

About Food & Recipes
In this space we share recipes, talk about foods and our food experience, introduce favorite eating places and where they can be found. My experience is Caribbean and readers are invited to share theirs.
